5 Crucial Practices for Looking After & Caring for Your Luxury Wristwatch

5 Crucial Practices for Looking After & Caring for Your Luxury Wristwatch

So, you did it. You've finally bought yourself a luxury wristwatch. Congratulations! Now that you’re a proud owner of a timepiece that’s never going to go out of fashion, it’s important—from the very beginning—that you start taking good care of your watch.

Here are our top five suggestions for looking after and caring for your watch.

Stay on top of regular maintenance.

Regular watch maintenance is going to save you money in the long run. Clean your watch and wristband with a soft and dry towel regularly. This will help clear away any environmental pollutants, possible soap buildup, and even perfumes that can be damaging to the watch after prolonged exposure.

Watch out for water.

Some watches are made for deep sea diving, Ironman Triathlons, and those men who are headed to the Moon. Our watches are all at least 3ATM water resistant. This means they can withstand pressures equivalent to a depth of 30 meters, which is to say your Ralph Christian watch is certainly going to survive rainy weather and light water splashes, and if it happens to fall into the kitchen sink, chances are it’s going to be fine. If you’re swimming, diving, showering, or bathing, we recommend removing your watch and storing it someplace dry and safe to preserve and protect its lifespan.

Get to know your timepiece.

Depending on which kind of watch you’ve purchased, your maintenance may look a little different. If you’re not sure how your watch works or which ones yours is, read our blog post about the difference between quartz and automatic watches here. Quartz watches are extremely reliable and require a battery change every few years. Automatic watches require slightly more maintenance, but that brings us to our next piece of advice…

Don’t do watch repairs DIY.

According to GQ, when it comes to watches, it’s better to leave repairs up to the pros. We couldn’t agree more. Each one of our meticulously handcrafted watches comes with our standard 12-month movement warranty for your peace of mind. We stand behind our craftsmanship 100 percent, but in the unlikely event that you encounter an issue with your watch and its outside of the warranty period, we recommend you connect with a local jeweler who does watch service and repairs.

And finally, reach out whenever you have a question.

The long of the short is we’re in this business because we love watches. We’re obsessive, you could say, in a good way. We’ll always be here to help. Every single one of our timepieces come with our standard a 12-month movement warranty for your peace of mind.
